If you wish to discuss the management of your patient prior to referral, I am happy to discuss individual cases.
Wisdom Teeth
These are the last teeth in the dental arch to erupt and often, there is insufficient space in the arch to functionally accommodate wisdom teeth and they are termed ‘impacted‘.
Impacted teeth that are not causing any problems can often be left alone but your dentist may have referred you to examine the wisdom teeth and ensure they are not causing damage to adjacent teeth .
Removal of a wisdom tooth is carried out under local anaesthetic and sedation. Sedation takes away much of the anxiety that patients may experience prior to surgery and allows you to be relaxed during the procedure. You will remember very little of the actual procedure following sedation.
Apicectomy
Teeth which have been root filled can sometimes become tender and cause swelling of the gums. This is often because there is residual infection at the root tip. Apicectomy involves a simple procedure to remove the infected root tip and seal the end of the root with a cement sealant.
Surgery can be carried out under local anaesthetic with or with out intra venous sedation.
Broken Teeth, Retained Roots
Your dentist may have decided that treatment to remove your broken or decayed teeth would be best carried out by a specialist oral surgeon. Surgery would be carried out under local anaesthetic with or without sedation depending on the patient.
Canine exposures, frenectomy, biopsies, pre prosthetic surgery are also carried out as requested by your orthodontist or dentist.
